I love being outside and I love that man.

It is illuminating to realize that light is the basis of all photography. God himself created light! (Gen. 1:3) He is Light! How can our hearts capture the beauty of light and its value in our lives? And how many times have you driven along a road and slowed down just to enjoy the beauty of light coming through clouds, over mountains, making leaves and grass glow, casting heavenly rays of golden light across the faces of the people you love as they ride along with you. Or maybe it’s that time right before dusk where the light outsides softly brightens your room just the way you like it. If not how it looks, it could be the warmth it can provide or at least its use as a necessary utility in all of our environments!

In the Bible, godly things = “light” while “darkness” symbolizes disparity, evil, and sin. He’s blessed us and called us to be “the light of the world” – Matthew 5:14. And His light is the only way to see clearly enough to navigate this dark world and for the rest of eternity! “There will be no more night. They will not need the light of a lamp or the light of the sun, for the Lord God will give them light. And they will reign for ever and ever.” – Revelation 22:5.

So I put two passions together: photography and God. Both are light…and I know as I begin to use light as it was intended in photography, I’m learning about God. He’s teaching me and specifically speaking to my heart. I get overwhelmed by the unmatched light that He emits and am so thankful He would shed some on me! I ask myself how effectively does my light shine? Could I be brighter? But mostly I just sit here dumbfounded and think “Wow…light…huh.”

“God is Light; in him there is no darkness at all” – 1 John 1:5
